Considering the direction things have been going, it is impossible to predict in which direction they'll go next"

Laurie-FitzgeraldLaurie A. Fitzgerald, PhD, is a Senior Practitioner for The Consultancy, Inc, a US-based firm providing special expertise throughout the international business community in the design and transformation of enterprise.  For more than 25 years, Dr. Fitzgerald has supported business leaders in their efforts to navigate the hyper-competitive and increasingly turbulent global marketplace. From Quebec to Cape Town, Singapore to Cincinnati, and Amsterdam to Auckland, she has partnered with executives in a wide range of industries to initiate and sustain the process of profound organizational change.

Her breadth of experience in manufacturing, engineering, retail, service, medical, pharmaceutical, banking, insurance & finance, telecommunications, aerospace, mining as well as local, national and international government, and at all levels of law enforcement, qualifies Laurie not as an ordinary industry specialist, but as an expert in the transformation of whole systems.

Included among her distinguished clients are Abbott Labs, AT&T, CH2M-Hill, Digital Equipment Company, Frontier Airlines, IBM, MM Mars, Safeway Stores, ING America Life, Keebler Foods, McDonnell-Douglas Aerospace, and the FBI as well as South Africa’s Woolworth’s Retailers and Old Mutual Assurance, India’s National Thermal Power Company, Nova Petrochemical in Canada, McGraw-Hill Publishers operations in the UK, and most recently, the world’s leading builder and producer of poultry-processing systems, Stork PMT headquartered in the Netherlands.

Laurie’s dissertation Designing Organizations for World Class Performance in the 21st Century:  A Theory, Model and Process for Creating Sustainable Organizational Architectures (UMI, 1994) was a first of its kind translation of the precepts and principles of the so-called “new” science into the language of business and management.  But don’t misunderstand:  Her thesis was not merely an academic tome, but rather the product of years of success in making the emerging worldview she calls Chaos both applicable to and actionable in the complex, dynamical, changing-at-warp-speed system known as the business enterprise.  In fact, Chaos continues to stand as the primary foundation of her practice.  More importantly, what most who know her find most remarkable is not merely her grasp of the conceptual subtleties of the “new science”, but her passion for living it!

In response to inquiries from several leading corporations she was serving at the time, Laurie designed and 'field-tested' a workshop she calls Lessons from Jurassic Park – an unparalleled learning experience through which hundreds of executives, managers, professional staffers, and change agents both internal and external, have enjoyed the opportunity to peruse their organizations through the powerful “lens” of Chaos.  As a result of their exposure to this rapidly emerging worldview, organizational change leaders and agents around the globe have reported extraordinary and continuing results.

For example, Nedcor Bank has made significant strides in becoming a global financial power in post-apartheid South Africa; Dutch engineering firm Stork PMT in only three short years has virtually eliminated what they called the “hierarchy in the head”…a belief system that once severely limited the creative capacity of its workforce; and Medtronic, a major division of the rather staid behemoth Johnson & Johnson, has initiated a super-powered learning process that has touch every one of its 28,000 employees.

In addition to her practice as a guide to and facilitator of organizational design and transformation, Dr. Fitzgerald currently serves on the adjunct faculties of Regis University, University of Phoenix, and Jones International University for whom she designs and delivers courses in management, leadership, and organizational design and change.  In addition, she is appears occasionally as a guest lecturer on organizational applications of the “new science” as well as other topics at the cutting-edge of management thinking at Henley Management College in the UK, the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands, Cornell and the University of California – Berkeley in the US, Canada’s Queen’s University, and Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
